One and only contest competed by professional street advertising men with their skills and ideas
When Toyama City reconstructed the city from ashes of war, in an attempt to lighten people up, and try to create a lively shopping street, the Chamber of Commerce of Toyama and Toyama City started this contest in 1955, which has grown to be Toyama’s annual spring event. Around the time when cherry blossoms are in full bloom along the Matsu River, there are 30+ teams with about 100 Professional Chindon men (street advertising men) gathering from all over Japan. Their humorous statements and flashy and elaborate costumes entertain people. Streets are filled with the cheerful echoing sounds of drums, bells, and their performances bring gales of laughter from the audience. Contest time: For three days in early April (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Toyama-kenminkaikan, Grand Plaza and other venues.
