Toyama mokuzougan

UNIQUE CRAFTS OF TOYAMA

Toyama mokuzougan

Mokuzougan is beautifully created wooden inlaid work contrived entirely from natural colored woods. Mokuzougan works are collected as treasures by the Shosoin Treasure House. In the latter part of the Meiji era, Mokudo Nakajima became a disciple of Senseki Shirakawa, the first man to master modern wood inlay skills. Mokudo Nakajima learned the skills and then returned to Toyama, thus starting Toyama mokuzougan.
